Sony Unveils "World's Thinnest Tablet"

Bangalore: The company which more or less tanked in the Smartphone arena has turned to another direction looking for a hope to revive its legacy as the developer of cutting edge technology. Sony unveiled the world’s thinnest tablet, Xperia tablet Z at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The tablet is a 10.1 inch device which runs on Android 4.1 JellyBean.

“Xperia Tablet Z sets new standards in entertainment by matching premium specifications and Sony technology with cross-device connectivity and a consistent user-experience,” said Kaz Tajima, corporate vice president, at Sony Mobile Communications to Firstpost. “The Xperia Tablet Z reinforces our intention to be a leading player in the premium Android device market, by building on the principles established by Xperia Z and perfectly optimizing them for the tablet form factor.”

The tablet weighs only 495 grams and is a sleek 6.9mm thick, probably that’s where it got is name “world’s thinnest tablet.” Just like the Xperia Z Smartphone, the tablet is waterproof and dust proof.

The “World’s thinnest tablet” has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro asynchronous quad core processor. Sony also claims that the tablet has the highest levels of water resistance making it immersible in up to three feet of water for up to 30 minutes, making it perfect for a little underwater photo shoot in your swimming pool but make sure that you do not go beyond 3-feet and all ports and covers are firmly closed.

With 10.1-inch full-HD Reality Display, an 8MP HD rear camera and a 2 MP HD front-facing camera Sony’s S-Force Front Surround 3D provides superior audio performance while Sony’s Clear Audio+ mode and the innovative use of two built-in speakers with four ‘speaker halls’ on the left and right corners can make the tablet a good entertainment unit for watching movies and TV shows at leisure.

The specs seem quite impressive for the “world’s thinnest tablet” and it could quite well prove to be a worthy adversary to the iPad. Currently the tablet is available at online stores for $499 in black and white colors.
