Sony Ericsson unveils New Android Phones 'Ray' and 'Active'


Bangalore: Sony Ericsson is all set to unveil two new additions to its mobile phone portfolio in India tomorrow. Sony-Ericsson Android devices named ?Ray? and ?Active? respectively. These devices are part of its Xperia brand. Xperia Active runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and packs a 3-inch Reality display (with Mobile BRAVIA Engine) of HVGA (480 x 320 pixels) resolution, a 5 MP camera with LED flash and 720p video recording, 320MB internal memory and microSD card slot (with 2GB pre-installed card). It has a bag full of connectivity tricks too - there is Wireless N with DLNA support, quad-band GSM and dual (or tri)-band HSPA network support, GPS with a GPS and digital compass, Bluetooth, FM radio with RDS and a 3.5mm audio jack is onboard Xperia Active is a dust and water resistant phone, and incorporates wet finger tracking which means that the phone works perfectly even when the screen or the user's fingers are wet and can swim in up to 1 m of water depth for good half an hour. Xperia Active is for health conscious people and comes pre-loaded with sports apps that enable consumers to easily track their fitness levels. Users can set their ideal training route using the built-in GPS, barometer and compass. The on-screen heart rate and pulse can be monitored in real time, while the iMapMyFitness app can monitor day to day performance. The phone comes with a changeable soft-touch back cover, and detachable ear hooks for the portable hands free that ensure the earpieces remain in place while you are running. It is packed with a wrist strap and arm case for use during workouts as well. Moving onto the Xperia Ray, it incorporates a front facing camera and a scratch resistant screen with excellent resolution, brightness, and integrated touch keys. The phone is light at just 100 grams. Xperia Ray runs on Gingerbread 2.3 and is powered by a 1 GHz processor. The phone is quite sleek, with a thickness of 9.4 mm and it looks gorgeous. The Xperia Ray connectivity departments are well geared with dual band, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Micro USB and a 3.5 mm audio jack are some of the other features. It bears an aluminum frame that measures about 9.4mm thick and comes in four different colors: black, gold, white, and pink. It also has a 3.3-inch, 854x480-pixel Reality Display with the Mobile Bravia Engine, which brings such advantages as noise reduction, sharpness, color management, and contrast enhancement. Phone is aimed more at style conscious consumers. Sony Ericsson has not announced the prices of its devices but could estimate between 15,000-20,000.
