Smartphones And Tablets Meet With Phablet Mania

Bangalore: “Phablet” has turned out be the buzz in mobile market. Smartphone and tablet manufacturers released a slew of outsized Smartphones and tablets at the world’s biggest mobile fair in Barcelona, Spain that can barely fit in one hand, says AFP reports.

The Ascend mate by Chinese manufacturer Huawei, the world’s number three Smartphone manufacturer, was the champion with a vast six-inch screen at the on-going World Mobile Congress. In terms of Smartphone screen real estate contest, rival Chinese handset maker ZTE released its Grand Memo boasting a 5.7 inch display. It was followed by South Korean giant LG with its Optimum Pro at 5.5 inches.

According to global consultants Deloitte, more than 120 million tablets were sold worldwide in 2012, 50 percent from the previous year and shipments of Smartphones are predicted to hit one billion this year. In, fact the size of tablets is shrinking day by day.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8, released in advance of the World Mobile Congress, has reduced its screen to eight inches to compete with Apple’s new iPad mini.

Taiwan based Asus showed off the Padfone infinity, a five inch, high-definition screen Smartphone that connects to the latest superfast fourth-generation wireless network and which slots into 10.1 inch tablet.

The ‘Tech Era’, known for its Smartphones have to be fast as the 4G network, also known as Long Term Evolution, or LTE, expands worldwide. Ascend P2, claimed to be the fastest in the world, has been unveiled by China’s Huawei at the show. The company held 5.3 percent of the market in the fourth quarter of 2012.
