Smartphone - The New Window To Your Dream Job

Bangalore:  The Smartphone technology is evolving at lightning speeds; people are glued to their phones with multi-tasking abilities. These devices are indeed making our life a lot easier and the latest one to the list is landing a dream job, reports The Wall Street Journal.

IDC, a technology research firm has predicted that  by the end of 2015, most of the people would prefer using mobile devices to access internet than desktop and laptop computers.

Employers have started creating mobile applications to hire new recruits as this eases recruitment process for them. The only set back is to create a streamlined user experience, since filling multiple fields and doing all the assessment tests is already annoying with a traditional keyboard. This would add to the pain for users of Smartphones as it contains a tiny screen with a touch-based keyboard.

However, as per iMomentous, a developer of mobile career sites, earlier in January, it is found that 33 percent of Fortune 500 companies had career portals and is optimized to fit a Smartphone screen, which allows job seeker to find and apply for openings on the go.

Companies like McDonald's Corp. tried easing out the application process for mobile job candidates. Generally it takes about 30 to 35 minutes to complete an application for both mobile and desktop version. To simplify process for mobile users, 30 fields were changed and enabled with drop down menus instead of free-text boxes.

According to Nicholas Statler, director of employment strategy at McDonald's, "With the hiring volume we have, it's much easier when someone comes into a restaurant and can apply right there on a phone instead of filling out a paper application." It allows the managers to save time spent on new applicants as they need not input all the information into a computer.

According to a report from Nielson market-research firm, 63 percent Americans use LinkedIn and Facebook on their mobile device. This creates an opportunity for employers to post their openings in these social networking sites, which in turn help the job seekers to apply to any preferred opening using their Smartphones.
