Samsung India Eyes 60 Percent of Smartphone Market


Kolkata: Samsung India is targetting to capture 60 percent of the mobile smartphone market in the country this year, a company official said.

"Our market share in the mobile smartphone market is 41 percent. We want to raise it to 60 percent in 2012," country head (mobile & IT) of Samsung India Ranjit Yadav said.

Launching the Samsung dual sim smartphone here today, Yadav said that the mobile smartphone segment in India was growing at a staggering pace of 220 percent.

He said that the mobile phone business was contributing to more than 50 percent of the company's annual revenue in the country.

Yadav said that the company would consolidate its position in the smartphone segment by creating new segments within the category. Last year, the company's revenue was 20,000 crore, he said. He said that on the whole, Samsung was the number two player in the mobile segment in India.
