Reliance Jio to Offer Cheapest 4G Smartphones in India

BENGALURU: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is planning to launch their 4G enabled entry-level smartphones for a jaw-dropping price of 2,000, reports The Economic Times.

Reliance Jio, which is the telecommunications part of RIL, targets around 10 to 90 crore consumers in the mobile market. These entry-level smartphones with in-built Jio apps in it will be sold out under the ‘ReConnect’, their Reliance retail network. Previously in 2003-2004, the company released mobile handsets for just 501 to attract the mass market.

Currently, Reliance is working with 24 mobile handset makers and 5 chipmakers to launch their mobile devices at all prices. The company is sure to put a competition to other telephone services all over the country and it will be using all their retail showrooms to sell these 4G smartphones.

“We want the entire range of smartphones to be available for the consumers to choose from. Starting from entry-level smartphones for Rs 2,000 to iPhones for Rs 20,000. There will be various price points to meet the needs of all the consumers,” a Reliance Jio official said.

Anshuman Thakur, Head of Business Strategy Development said, “The idea is not to make profits on selling handsets. We will sell them at 'no-profit, no-loss' basis and will not subsidize the handsets. We want to ensure that the entire ecosystems of devises are available before the commercial launch.”

Reliance Digital has over 1,300 retail outlets across the country.
