Now Test Your Eyes Using Smartphones

Bangalore: Smartphones have taken over all the important functions in our lives. We have now become heavily dependent on our smartphones to remind us to do things. Some of us even actually use the smartphone to make important decisions.

The new function that your smartphone can do will be deciding whether it’s time for you to start wearing glasses or not.

The app has been developed by an Indian Born Ramesh Raskar who is an associate professor in media arts and sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). According to the Hindustan Times, Ramesh Raskar said that he along with his team had conducted scientific trials and are hoping to market the instrument in India in the next few months.

The device has been named NETRA which can be expanded as Near Eye Tool for Refractive Assessmen. In order to use this device, the person must clip it on to a mobile phone. The test hardly takes about a minute.

Raskar went on to explain the working of the device. For people who have correct vision they would only se a single line. But people suffering some eye defect would see multiple numbers of lines. This then would tell people if they need glasses or not.
