Nokia Asha 501, With Unlimited Facebook Access Unveiled


Bangalore: Nokia unveiled yet another budget phone, Asha 501, in India.  Stephen Elop, Nokia's CEO, was also present at the launch of the handset, which is supposed to hit the market in June. He announced about the partnership with Facebook and mentioned, the company will provide free access to the social networking site for a period of time to users of Airtel. The device will put a price tag of $99 plus taxes in India.

Nokia Asha 501 sports a 3-inch fully touch-screen with 320×240-pixel resolution. The back panel holds a 3.2 MP camera and the phone will support various Indian languages like Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil in its virtual keyboard. The Smartphone boasts number of pre installed apps like the Facebook, Twitter and provides an option for Dual-SIM and Single SIM version of the phone.

Device Connectivity features include, 2G, WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0. The 3G version is likely to be launched later. The phone packs 64 MB RAM and will come along with a 4GB microSD card, which is expandable up to 32GB.

The company hopes Asha 501 to be a hit with its attractive features, and expects to compete with low-cost Android phones in developing markets in India.
