No OTA Updates To OnePlus One Handsets Sold In India: Cyanogen

BENGALURU: CyanogenMod, an open source operating system for Smartphones and tablets based on the Android mobile platform, has confirmed that it won’t send any OTA updates to the Oneplus One handsets sold in India. Instead, they will receive a different update which wouldn’t be based on the Cyanogen, reports Tech 2.

Apparently, the blog by the Cyanogen states that “If a user in India purchased a OnePlus One global device in channels outside of India, they will receive our OTA firmware updates. However, this excludes OnePlus One regional devices sold directly in India.” On the other hand, the blog also states that the handsets sold globally apart from India will continue to receive regular OTA updates from Cyanogen.

The company has revealed that its own OS will be based on Android 5.0 which will be ready by December and is the first community build. OnePlus claims that, “it will be bloatware-free and only carry the features important to our users. We appreciate the work that Google has put into Android, and we have no plans of departing from Material Design nor adding unnecessary customizations.”

However, to receive the OTA updates the users will have to flash the Cyanogen Mod manually or use OnePlus’ custom ROM that is expected to release sometime this month. OnePlus will continue to work with Cyanogen globally and the devices purchased outside India and used in the country will receive updates from Cyanogen.
