Nextbit to Launch Cloud-based Smartphone in India


BENGALURU: Nextbit—a mobile technology company based out of San Francisco, came under spotlight for offering 100GB of cloud storage with its first smartphone for free to its users and integrated this feature in the OS. The company’s first smartphone–Robin–running on Google’s Android OS will be launched in India by the end of this month. Nextbit recently received regulatory sanction to trade Robin in India, reports Gadgets 360.

Nextbit has carefully merged cloud technology with onboard storage which enables Robin to seamlessly back up the applications and photos for the users. The company launched the new smartphone last year in the U.S. which was sold roughly at the cost of 26,000 INR. The price range of Robin in India will not vary much from that of the U.S. quoted price.

Robin sports a decent hardware at its price and features a 5.2-inch full-HD display. The smartphone addresses the problem of limited storage with its cloud-based storage capacity. With Qualcomm’s hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor the smartphone boasts of an impressive platform for connected mobile experience. It comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage which is non-expandable. Robin also allows users to take benefit of its 100GB of free cloud storage space.

Nextbit Robin is a single SIM smartphone which also has connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Near Field Communication (NFC). The device comprises of Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, Fingerprint sensors, Proximity sensor, and Gyroscope. Other features of the smartphone include a 13-megapixel rear camera with a front-facing camera of 5-megapixel and a USB Type-C charging port. With a 2680mAh battery, Robin will be shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow in two color variants—Mint and Midnight.
