Motorola Droid X to launch in U.S. on July 15

Bangalore: Motorola's latest offering, the Droid X, is all set to launch in U.S, come July 15, under Verizon network. The phone is priced at $199.99 with a two years contract. The Droid X comes with 4.3 inch screen and runs on Android 2.1, with an updated version of Motorola's Blur. It has an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED, and records 720p video. It has a legit multitouch keyboard with Swype built-in. The 1GHz processor, which is an upgrade from Droid's 600MHz, makes the device faster. The phone comes with a storage capacity of 8GB, which can be expanded up to 32GB. Just like the HTC Evo, it has also got an integrated mobile hotspot with support for up to five devices connected over Wi-Fi. However, it will cost you an extra $20 a month and with a 2GB data cap. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth and GPS. The good news is that the Droid X will see an update to Android's next-gen OS Froyo and added Flash support soon in the near future. The Droid X launch follows the release of other smartphones like Apple's iPhone 4. However, the former does outclass the iPhone in certain aspects. Like the Droid X's feature of acting as a mobile hotspot is absent in iPhone. Also in terms of storage capacity, the iPhone comes in 16GB and 32GB versions, with no further scope of expansion. The Droid X on the other hand, has 8GB of storage built-in, and comes with a 16GB microSD card in the box. As the Droid X supports microSD cards up to 32GB, its storage capacity can be extended up to 40GB. Additionally, the Droid X comes with new features such as cloud-to-device messaging, Exchange and Gmail for business and enhanced enterprise functionality. With all the sophisticated and renewed characteristics, the Droid X looks like an able competitor for Apple's iPhone 4. Let the contest begin!
