Market sizzles with two cheap touchscreens from Samsung, Spice


Bangalore: Going by the craze for touch screen phones in the market, Samsung has announced the launch of "Samsung Champ", touted to be the cheapest of all touch screens. The phone is priced at 7500 and will be available in the markets of Europe, Middle East, Asia and Latin America in the starting of June. While Spice Mobiles' new video phone "S-7000" is also up for grabs, coming at a price of 7,499. The Samsung Champ will come with a 2.4 inch QVGA touch screen, which is pretty smaller compared to Samsung Corby that has a display of 2.8 inch. The Champ offers some decent features including 1.3 megapixel camera, built in mp3 player and radio, 3D surround sound effects, Bluetooth connectivity with USB. The device has an internal memory of 30MB and can be expanded up to 8GB with a microSD. With a 1000mAh battery, the phone has a decent talk time of 12 hours and 660 hours on standby. Compact in its size, the phone has social networking integration and has the single touch feature to access clock, calendar and my buddies. It is offered in different colors like white, brown, black and pink. With Touchwiz Lite user interface, the phone is quite simple to use. Available in the same range is Spice Mobiles' latest S-7000 model, the phone boasts of premium features as 3.2 inch wide touch screen, WAP GPRS, 3.2 megapixel camera, digital surround sound and unlimited phonebook memory. Its memory can be expanded to 16GB which is double that of Samsung Champ. It has tied-up with Disney India to provide exclusive content from the latest film from Disney, 'Prince of Persia- Sands of Time' on the S-7000."It has been a constant endeavor at Spice Mobiles to develop new product categories at affordable prices. But what sets apart the S-7000 is that it is the only mobile phone that plays video in all the video formats without the hassle of converting videos into a specific file format. Now it remains to be seen that with Spice's S-7000 already creating ripples in the market with its unique features, what impact and market share will Samsung Champ enjoy on its release?
