Make Way for the New King of Smartphones, the LG G5, Arriving Next Quarter

BENGALURU: LG’s much awaited flagship device, the G5, will be launched in India in the next quarter, the company announced. LG unveiled the G5 model at the recently concluded MWC in Barcelona and is all set for its global launch in April. The G5 was the star of the MWC where it outclassed the phone variants like Samsung Galaxy S7 and Xiaomi Mi5, earning rave reviews from critics. The flagship phone might just provide LG with that much needed push, as the company’s mobile unit posted losses in the past two quarters.

“We are really happy to see all the positivity around the LG G5 ever since its global unveil at the MWC. In fact, in a survey conducted in Korea the LG G5 topped consumer preference leaving its closest competitors trailing far behind. We hope to make this available to users in India very soon and are optimistic that consumers will love its revolutionary design and features,” said Mr. Amit Gujral, Marketing Head – Mobiles, LG India.

The G5 won GSM Association’s best new mobile device award at the MWC for its modular design that enables users to swap in custom accessories for specific functions. The modules or Friends, as LG calls them, are add-ons that can be plugged into the phone for an extra “oomph” factor in the features like audio quality, camera, and others. LG Friends so far include a DSLR quality camera attachment, HiFi audio DAC from Bang and Olufsen, 360 degree angle camera, headphones and virtual reality goggles. The company has also introduced a rolling bot which can be operated remotely, to see what’s happening at your home. “It can play, dance and give a laser light show your pets can play with. It even lets you speak to them while you are away - from anywhere in the world,” describes the company.

As for other specifications, the G5 comes with a 5.3 inch QuadHD IPS display with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution and 554ppi pixel density. The display features the always-on technology where certain pixels remain lighted all the time to allow users to access important notifications, system time, among others. The flagship is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC processor with 4 GB RAM and has a 32 GB internal memory storage, expandable up to 2TB via a MicroSd slot. It runs on the all new Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS sporting LG’s elegant Optimus UX 5.0 UI.

The G5 has two rear cameras– a 16 megapixel featuring 78-degree lens and another 8 megapixel with 135 degree wide-angle lens. It also has an 8-megapixel front camera for taking those uber cool selfies. Other features include a 2800 mAh battery with Quick          Charge 3.0, finger print scanner, a 4G LTE, USB Type-C port compatible with USB 3.0 standard, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi 802.11. The phone will be available in Silver, Gold, Pink, and Titan colour options.
