LG unveils Android-run smartphone 'Optimus One' @ 13,500


New Delhi: LG has unveiled its latest smartphone 'Optimus One' at 13,500 in India. The Android-run handset has an 8.1-cm display, 3MP camera and expandable memory upto 32GB. Apart from that it is loaded with GPRS, EDGE, Threaded Messages and many more special features. "Smartphones are poised to drive the growth in the India mobile market in the coming years. 2011 will be aacceleration phase for LG Mobiles, and all are plans, investments are aligned towards taking 12-15 percent of market share in Smartphone segment", said Moon B Shin, Managing Director, LG Electronics India. The company is also ramping the capacity of its manufacturing unit in Pune, but it will not manufacture the smartphones in India yet. "We are importing the smartphones from Korea. We will have to wait and see the sales before we take the decision of manufacturing smartphones here. We will invest about $4-5 million for the expansion," Shin said. The company said that it will invest more than 100 crore for marketing and promotion of its smartphone range 'Optimus' in the country next year. The investment is a part of 350 crore marketing budget for 2011. LG will launch 10 more devices in the Optimus series, priced between 8,000- 30,000 over the next six months.
