Intel's Medfield Chip for Smartphone & Tablet

Bangalore: Intel shows off its foremost Smartphones and Tablets based on Medfield processor. Intel is planning to represent its new mobile System-on-a-Chip (SoC), Medfield in Consumer Electronics Show in January 2012.

The upcoming Smartphone and Tablet will run on Google’s latest Android OS. Medfield is one of the latest mobile chips revealed by Intel .Currently, maximum phones and tablets have ARM designs but with the demonstration of Medfield, Intel is hoping to replace ARM with Medfield. The reason behind it is, till now ARM has dominated the mobile chips market and now Medfield has come up with a major technological step which would consume less power.

The size of the sample Smartphone is similar to the iPhone 4 but comparatively lighter. The performance of the phone is good and is balancing the market with the latest Android and iPhone device. The Smartphone could play Blu-ray quality video and the web browsing is faster and smooth. As per Smith, the Vice President of Intel's architecture group, Intel has generated this Medfield Chip to speed up Android apps and Web browsing, reveals in Technology Review Magazine.

Intel’s reference Tablet like the Smartphone would also run on the latest Android version with Medfield chip. The display screen of the Tablet is little larger than the iPad 2 but has same width and weight.

With the entry of Apple in the Smartphone market, Intel concentrated only on Netbooks and mobile Internet devices larger than Smartphones which never became popular. The reentry of Intel into the Smartphone and Tablet market with the new Medfield chip seems promising. The price and the performance are yet to notice with the introduction of the devices into the market.
