Intel to Power Jelly Bean Tablets, Smartphones

Bangalore: With the market slowly but surely shifting towards smartphones and tablets, Intel has all reasons to worry.  They have decided to take the big leap into the world of smartphones and tablets with their Atom processors.

The latest reports are that Intel is working on its Atom processor which will power tablets and smartphones running on the latest version of Google Android – Jelly Bean operating system. As of now Intel hasn’t announced the time-frame within which devices running on this processor will arrive in the market.

"Intel continues to work closely with Google to enable future versions of Android, including Jelly Bean, on our family of low power Atom processors," a company spokeswoman told IDG News Service in an e-mail.

So far only companies like Indian manufactures Lave, Lenovo and European telecom operator Orange released hardware working on Intel processor. The Smartphones that are currently running on Intel chips are operating on Android 2.3, Gingerbread, and will soon get an upgrade to Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Intel is partnering with Google’s Android with the hope that this partnership will help them gain in roads in to the smartphone and tablet market which at present is dominated by ARM chipset.
