Indian Smartphone Market Yet To Woo Indian Women

BANGALORE: Working women account for about 17 percent of the women in India. That translates into 215.9 million people. It is indeed surprising to find only 30 percent working women are using Smartphones as stated in a recent study done by Qualcomm. That leaves a large gap which can be cashed in by the mobile manufacturers. We look into the detail about the untapped market of female Smartphone users, as reported by Sulabh Puri of Business Insider.

More than 57 percent of women in India purchased a mobile handset about a couple of years ago. Among the feature phone users, 36 percent report that they are not planning to buy a Smartphone. The reason behind these women not showing interest in Smartphones can be traced down to two factors. 44 percent of them feel that it is not easy to use.

India has a large middle class that is cost conscious. 39 percent of women interviewed have told that Smartphones are beyond their reach in terms of market price. However, the positive aspect is that many women are open to learn how to use a Smartphone that is packed with apps. There is no platform to educate them on the same as of now.
