India, Most Expensive Place to Buy an iPhone 6s, US Cheapest

BENGALURU: We are now aware of the news that iPhones will soon hit India, the company has released the price, and as an immediate response, E-Com big players opened pre-bookings, reports CNET.

Apple confirmed that the new models iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in the Indian market from next month. This announcement has put an end to the wait for the release. The prices of the smartphones will differ based on the available storage space.

The iPhone 6s with 16 GB is priced 62,000, 64GB variant will be available at 72,000 and 128GB variant at 72,000. Relatively, iPhone 6s Plus starts at 72,000 for 16 GB, 82,000 for 64GB and 92,000 for the 128 GB variants.

These prices are making Apple enthusiasts in India to think twice before buying the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. When compared with the new iPhone prices all over the world, it remains high in India. The high-end range of new iPhone 6s Plus is 92,000.

This might in turn gives scope to other smartphone brands like Samsung (with the S6 starting at around 40,000), Xiaomi's RedMi range and products made by local brand Micromax.

Using the top and bottom models as reference points, the 16GB 6s costs $649 in America, AU$1,079 in Australia and £540 in the UK. That means Indians are paying $306 more than Americans, AU$231 more than Australians and £80 more than those in the UK.

”Anything above 60,000 rupees is way out of reach for even an average rich urban consumer,” Neil Shah, research director at Counterpoint Research, told media. ”Apple has done well in its last financial year from October 2014 to September 2015 in India, selling close to 1.7 million units, which is up 55 percent annually, but still only half of the iPhones sold have been iPhone 6 series, which speaks volumes for the price affordability of most of the iPhone fan base.”

After launching in the Americas, China, Australia and much of Europe on September 25, the two new iPhones will be available in India, Russia, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and several other countries on October 15. South Korea and Ukraine will follow, getting the devices on October 23.
