Honor 8: An Elegant Device with a Decent Price Tag


BENGALURU: The Chinese branded devices are competing with top players in the smartphone arena today, offering latest technology at the cheapest possible pricing. The new Honor 8 from Huawei- a Chinese electronics manufacturer has made its benchmark in the smartphone market.

The new Honor 8 positioned in the upper mid-range smartphone segment is powered by Huawei’s in-house Hi-Silicon Kirin 950octa-core processor coupled with 4GB RAM. The device is available in both 32GB and 64GB memory options.  The phone runs on Android Marshmallow with Huawei’s Emotion UI or EMUI.

The Hononr 8 offers an elegant design with a metal frame sandwiched between two sheets of curved glass. The phone houses a 5.2 inch full HD display, offering vibrant colors, good viewing angles, and strong sunlight legibility. A notification LED is neatly hidden in the earpiece grille, an infrared emitter is inbuilt and a USB Type-C port on the bottom. At the side is a SIM and microSD card tray.

At the back side, it has the dual cameras with laser autofocus sensor, and dual-tone LED flash. The fingerprint sensor below is super fast and efficient with minimal errors. Users can also customize it to lock apps, access hidden files, and perform gestures such as answering a call, taking a selfie, or even pulling down the notifications shade.

Other connectivity options include a dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, USB OTG, and NFC. An FM radio is missing in the device. The Honor 8 supports 4G LTE for FDD and TDD bands. Though VoLTE is currently not supported in India, the company says it should be enabled by a software update in the future.
