Hidden Dangers Behind Low-Cost Smartphones

Bangalore: A new smartphone is released almost every day. The smartphone market has been growing and with the inflow of budget smartphones the growth is phenomenal. But many experts feel that this sudden boom in the budget smartphone market may have some negative fallout.

There are speculations that this boom might lead to increase in viruses and malwares. At the rate at which the market is growing it has been predicted by NPD DisplaySearch that the smartphone users would increase from 4.5 million to nearly 311.0 million.

Malware has already been reported from Android users. Loozfon and FinFisher are among the two most dangerous ones. Loozfon actually steals the contact details from a person’s contact book from the phone while FinFisher can remotely control and monitor a device.

One reason for this increased problem is that the low cost smartphones don’t come with the recommended security features, which makes it an open play ground for hackers and cyber criminals. Even Apple isn’t free from malware as the first one was discovered in July 2012, but it was subsequently removed. The malware was in the form of the app “Find and Call” which could steal all the contact information from the phone and then they would spam the contacts with details regarding this app.

So the next time you reach out to buy a budget smartphone be informed that you and are phone are open to being hacked!
