HP unveils web connected e-All-in-Ones printers in India

Bangalore: The cloud is thundering with a new buzz! And the buzz is that Hewlett Packard (HP) is printing through the cloud. HP has introduced its new portfolio of web-connected, cloud print-enabled home and business printers for the Indian market in the price bracket of 7,570 and 23,000. The new series called the Photosmart e-All-in-Ones includes HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One B110e, HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One C410, HP Officejet 7500A Wide-Format e-All-in-One, HP Officejet Pro 8500A e-All-in-One Series and will be available across India by this quarter. What sets apart the new set of printers from HP is that users can print files, documents, images from anywhere in the world at anytime. The technology behind this is called ePrint that makes use of the cloud to print files and one can give print command from laptops or mobile devices to the printer. How this technology works is that each printer has a unique email address to which the user can send a mail to deliver a print. Consumers can also send documents to print through an HP ePrint mobile app on their smartphone device to a home, office or public print location. Just like in any other cloud oriented service, the question of security crops up here as well. When asked about what were the steps taken to ensure that the consumers' documents were safe in the cloud, Naveen Kejriwal, Country Category Manager (Consumer Imaging & Printing Products), HP India explained that a three level security filter was put in place for the same. "To begin with the email id of the printer is a complex one. We have ensured industrial strength spam filter at cloud level that reports any bulk print command as spam. Then there is the option of categorizing email addresses under white list and black list to choose between desired and undesired email ids set to give print order respectively," said Kejriwal. Among the other key features of the printers include the Touchsmart technology and access to various apps directly on the printer platform. The Touchsmart technology allows consumers to access content and use the Photosmart e-All-in-One printers with the sweep of a finger via an intuitive touch screen panel fixed on the printers. The apps platform gives consumers direct, on-demand access to popular, local web content - and allows them to print the content without a PC. Some of the apps include Snapfish, Web Sudoku, DreamWorks and others. The new platform gives developers one more avenue to develop apps. So what is the next innovation that HP is coming up with? To this, Raj Kumar Rishi, Director, IWS & Consumer GTMU, HP India shared that HP is currently working on scheduled delivery printing. Also HP is in talks with various businesses where the printers can be installed and people can get print deliveries anywhere like airport or a coffee shop. The future of printing surely seems to be an exciting one then.
