Google's Android One Set To Appear In September

BANGALORE: The Indian handset manufacturers who are a part of ‘Android one’ program are now getting ready to launch their handsets next month. Google’s initiative to provide rich Smartphone experience on low cost devices is about to face its big task when Micromax, Karbonn and Spice release their phones, reports Economic Times.

It is observed that the companies would set a price tag of Rs 7000 to 10, 000 on the handsets, subsequently higher than the price tag set of sub-$100 (6000) initially, but the final pricing is left to the handset manufacturers and will be based on competition from the other handsets in the market.

According to a person involved with the Android one initiative, the increase in pricing is because Google intends to provide better apps and features on the phone

"Android One is setting minimum hardware and software standards for the three vendors, who are adding or improving upon them in future devices under the Android One umbrella," the person said.

Supposedly, the Android one program is crucial for Google as it first releases it in India and would launch it in other emerging markets after observing the response here. To ensure the product quality and final consumer experience, Google is working closely with the companies to develop the handsets.
