Get the Right Power Bank for Your Favorite Gadget

BENGALURU: Even though smartphones have evolved from being bulky to sleek and lightweight efficient devices, these gadgets come at a cost of considerable battery drain. Today, most of the smartphone users carry an external Power bank -a portable charger for the mobile devices.  So if you are not satisfied with your phone’s battery backup, and is planning to go for a new power bank, here is what you should know.

First of all, check for the mAh capacity mentioned on the smartphone battery or the specs in the mobile's manual. Make sure that you buy a power bank that can charge your device at least once. For example, if your device has a 2000mAh battery capacity, buy a power bank with at least 2500mAh, or if you need more go for a higher mAh model. Remember to verify the current draw as well. Check your mobile's original plug for details on current draw. If possible, buy a powerbank with two USB ports — 1A and 2.1A.

Be careful about the type of cells- Lithium-ion is cheap and easily available. Li-poly cells, on the other hand, are more expensive, but provide twice as much charge density per unit weight. Always try to buy from a reputed brand. Low-quality lithium-ion power banks not only effect performance, but are also a potential hazard.

While choosing a power bank, make sure that the power cords are of good quality. As the main intention to buy a power bank is to recharge gadgets while travelling, choose a power bank that is light weight and easily portable.
