Facebookers turn 'Smart', Prefer Smartphones over Computers


Bangalore: Its official, its smart phones over traditional computers. A recent research by comScore concluded that mobile social media audience has witnessed a 37percentage increase in the previous year. An average user spent more than seven hours on Facebook via smart phones while six hours via computers. The research also reconfirmed Facebook as the network of choice by users. Twitter grabbed the second spot while LinkedIn came in third.

Interestingly people chose networking applications on mobile over mobile browsers to access the web. This figure has witnessed a whooping increase of 126 percentage in comparison to last year. Following these findings Facebook is planning to launch an initiative to get its application on all mobile devices including smart phones, feature phones and iPads.

The research showed that 80.3 percentage of the total audience read posts by personal acquaintances using their smartphones. Around 69 percentage of the audience updated their statuses while 53 percentage people followed posted website links via cell phones. Posts from organizations, events and brands were read by 52.9 percentage of the audience on social networking sites.  Daily deal sites benefitted as well with 33.3 percentage of the audience buying deals from such sites using their smart phones.

The research clearly proves that mobile applications for brands are one beneficial area that companies must tap. It is important for such brands to develop mobile applications to connect to users. While designing these applications companies must remember that heavy duty sites are inconvenient to load on cell phones and are also expensive. The key is to make applications that are user friendly.
