Delhi Police Ban Drones as Intelligence Suspects an Imminent Terror Strike

BENGALURU: Amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Delhi Police imposed a ban on operating drones in the metropolitan area. The new initiative is implemented as a response to the recent intelligence reports. The reports indicate the possibility of a drone-assisted terror strike by Pakistan-sponsored extremist groups such as the Jaish-e-Muhammed. The attack is expected be targeted on the Parliament. Furthermore, messages intercepted by the intelligence also mentioned that, if the strike on Parliament fails, they plan to create chaos in crowded areas such as the Delhi Secretariat, Lotus temples and Akshardham.

According to last week’s intelligence reports, two Jaish-e-Muhammad suspects were approaching Delhi in a commercial vehicle. The information also suggested that the suspects started from Kulgam in South Kashmir and were armed with weapons including Kalashnikov rifles.

Considering the level of threat, people were also requested to keep a close eye on their surroundings and alert the police on spotting suspicious individuals or objects. Furthermore, Police chiefs of the neighbouring states have been asked to issue orders to inspect the vehicles entering the city from Punjab or North India.

A full-fledged security arrangement would be implemented around the immersion ghat by deploying additional policemen and armed commandos. Staying ahead of the upcoming threats, on Monday evening, the police reviewed the security conditions of Ramlila Maidan and the seven ghats. The police also blocked all other entry and exit points; forming just a single entry and exit arrangement. Additionally, the Delhi Police, teaming up with paramilitary forces and NSG, will also effectively initialize a security inspection across the city’s most crowded areas.
