With the youngsters today demanding more in every picture they click on their smartphone, mobile manufacturing companies are betting high on various technologies to improve the camera experience in their smartphones. Gionee, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer launches yet another smartphone – the Gionee A1 Plus, with camera functionality as one its key USP. Priced at Rs. 26,999, the A1 Plus is available in Black and Mocha Gold variants, and compared to its predecessor A1, the new Gionee A1 Plus is bigger, and better in many aspects. Let us take a look at some of its specifications –

Display & Body Design: The Gionee A1 plus has a 6-inch full HD display with 367 ppi pixel density. It measures 166.4 x 83.3 x 9.1 mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs 226 grams (majorly because of the massive battery it holds), making it one of the heaviest smartphones available in the market today. Although the backside of the device is made of metal, the surface seems slippery at times. Owing to its broadness and weight, users need to be extra careful while handling the A1 Plus smartphone, carrying it in the pockets being problematic as well.

Camera: As mentioned earlier, most Gionee phones these days are packed with something unique when it comes to their cameras. The Gionee A1 Plus comes with dual rear cameras (13mp and 5mp) and a massive 20mp front camera, both equipped with powerful LED flash. The 20mp front places the A1 Plus onto the list of a very few smartphones flaunting such high pixel camera, which was till recently available only in the high-budget smartphones.

Performance & Storage: The Gionee A1 Plus is powered by a, 2.6 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P25 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB internal memory. However, a very significant portion of this internal storage is occupied by the pre-installed apps that include Amazon, Facebook, Truecaller, Messenger, Instagram, Saavn, Xender, and the Touchpal Keyboard. Among these, the Touchpal Keyboard seems to be spammy, as it loads Web-based games on the device and have a floating widget on screen at all times.  Despite being a 2.6 GHz processor, unlike other smartphones with a similar/same processor, the A1 Plus does not heat a bit despite using games which consume more battery such as Blood & Glory or Pokemon GO.

Battery Capacity, Charging, & Storage: Most features of the A1 Plus are quite similar to its predecessor A1; however, the Gionee A1 Plus’ gets an upgrade, and is powered by a 4550 mAh Li-ion battery. The device supports ultrafast charging feature, which the company claims can charge the device to 100 percent in less than 2 hours. Despite multitasking and using high power consuming games/apps, the battery easily lasts up to 36 hours. The Gionee A1 Plus has an internal storage of 64 GB, which can further be expanded up to 256 GB via an external Micro SD card. Similar to any other smartphone in this price range, the device supports USB OTG, assuring hassle-free transfer of files to the users.

Overall, the Gionee A1 Plus, despite being one of the best smartphones in the price range today, takes a huge hit because of its large weight and less pocket-friendliness. If you’re a tech-savvy geek demanding a large battery back-up, the A1 Plus is the best partner for you.
