Buffalo, Pioneer unveils world's first BDXL disc writers


Bangalore: Buffalo and Pioneer have introduced world's first BDXL disc writers for the Japanese market. Buffalo will offer both a USB 2.0-powered external drive, the BRXL-6U2, and an internal BRXL-6FBS-BK model with a SATA interface, while Pioneer's BDR-206MBK is for internal use only. BDXL media can hold as much as 128GB with a four-layer disc, or 100GB on a three-layer disc. The Buffalo drives can record at BD-R XL discs at 4X, BD-RE XL at 2X and two-layer BD-Rs at 6X. With special software, the discs can support 3D media content playback. The BDXL burners can take on 4 layer BD-R XLs and lay down a huge chunk of your data onto a single disc. The Pioneer drive can write BD-R/-R DL discs at 6X, BD-RE/-RE DLs at 2X and can also record to DVD and CD media. It has a 4MB buffer. No prices or release dates were announced for the Buffalo BDXL drives. The Pioneer drive will cost the equivalent of $372 and is due for a release in Japan in mid-November.
