Asus Zenfone 3S Max:Sleek Looks Powered by Huge Battery Capacity

It is just the third month of the year and the budget smartphone segment is already burgeoning with new entrant smartphones, each vying to stay a step ahead of the other. What began with Lenovo’s Lenovo P2 and Xiaomi’sRedmi Note 4, is now witnessing a new rival – the Zenfone 3S Max from Asus. An addition to its Zenfone 3 series of budget smartphones, Asus is all set to go head-on with its competitors with the 3S Max, which comes packed with multiple tech features & design aspects. Let us took a look at some of its technical specifications and design aspects:

• System Performance & Storage: The Zenfone 3S Max functions via a 1 GHz Octacore processor and 3 GB RAM, along with 32 GB in-built memory, which can further be expanded to a massive 2 TB (Mind you! A 2 TB memory card will cost almost the same or more than the phone). The striking feature about this smartphone is its Android version – the 7.0 Nougat – which was till now only available in premium smartphones. Although the processor is not on par with most smartphones in this price range, the Mediatek MT6750 processor and the Android 7.0 offer users a whole new level of features and UI. Most of the apps/games like Pokemon GO or Candy Crush, despite occupying a large chunk of memory, work smoothly, but the device does tend to lag at times when there are multiple apps running in the background. The devise also heats-up quiet fast if you are gaming, or using Google Maps for over 15 minutes continuously, which is a drawback considering the 1 GHz processor.

Additionally, the Zenfone 3S Max come with two mics combined with the revolutionary noise cancellation technology to offer crystal-clear voice clarity during calls. Ensuring security to the user data, the 3S Max comes equipped with the fingerprint technology, which can either be enabled individually or along with other unlock options like PIN or pattern lock to allowadditional layer of privacy.

• Battery Capacity: The Zenfone 3S Maxis powered by a massive 5000mAh Lithium ionbattery which lasts for close to 48 hours irrespective of being on 3G or 4G bandwidth. This can further be extended to 12 more hours through the built-in power saving mode. The highlight of this phone is the introduction of the reverse charging technology, which till now, was rarely seen even in the premium smartphones. This technology enables 3S Max to be used as a power bank by connecting another device through an OTG cable.

• Body Design & Display: Keeping in mind the varying needs of the customers, Asus has made several design changes to the Zenfone 3S Max, which has a 5.2-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is available in variants of Black and Sand Gold. Unlike its other previous smartphones, Asus has moved 3S Max’s camera to the top left corner instead of top center. The 2.5D display glass on the front and the sandblasted matte finish to the metal back offer a premium look and feel to the users. Despite having a 5000mAh battery, the 3S Max weights only 175g and is among the thinnest smartphones currently available at its price range.

• Connectivity: The Zenfone 3S Max has provision for 2 nanosim cards and supports 3G as well as 4G/LTE bandwidth. The Bluetooth functions on 4.10 version and the Wi-Fi connectivity speed, despite being very quick, lags and the device restarts at times while connecting to a new Wi-Fi network.

• Camera: 3S Max comes equipped with a 13 megapixel primary camera supported by dual LED flash, and an 8MP secondary camera. The focus and shutter speed is fast and also has an in-built beautification mode that enables auto-editing of pics clicked in that mode. However, the image clarity is average, as both front and the back cameras take a hit in low lighting conditions.

If you’re looking for a compact smartphone with decent features and long-lasting battery life, the Asus Zenfone 3S Max seems to be an ideal choice. The reverse charging feature comes as an icing on the cake, as it seems adept to youth of today who are very much active on their smartphones, demanding considerably large battery. However, the 1 GHz processor seems to be of less value to the user as compared to other smartphones in similar price range. If you are looking for a high performance smartphone with sufficient RAM and processor speed for multi-tasking or using games with heavy graphics, the 3S Max will definitely hamper your user experience to some extent.
