Asus Padfone X: A Good Run For First-Time Tablet-Smartphone Users

BANGALORE: Companies are often in their R&D process to give something new to the customers and Asus is one such company that has been trying hard to nail down the modular mobile device the PadFone X, which is the company’s first tablet-smartphone that is set to launch this summer in the U.S. market, reports NDTV.

The PadFone X is a standard 5-inch Android Smartphone that straps a device into its included 9-inch tablet dock, this means it’s a combo device where you don't need both phone and tablet—as long as you have the new PadFone X.

When it comes to performance the PadFone X is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage with support for a 64GB microSD card. Swiping through the home screens and apps drawer is made easy in line with the current OS while gaming support has been a added plus in either Smartphone or tablet mode. The transitioning from tablet to Smartphone mode takes about 2.4 seconds which is fairly good.

Although the PadFone is available only through AT&T, its costs just $199 with a two-year contract through AT&T, which is cheaper than Apple iPhone 5s and Samsung's Galaxy S5 in the product portfolio.

Some of the pros of the PadFone is that it combines two devices in one, impressive value, slick dynamic display feature, above average tablet battery life and finally a strong performance. When it comes to cons, the device has below-average Smartphone battery life, bezel part surrounding on the tablet is too large and lastly the performance trails flagship Android devices.

So the final verdict is that the ASUS' PadFone X is an innovative and affordable hybrid that doubles as Smartphone and tablet, but it's better in the former mode.
