Apple Displaces Samsung, Becomes No1 Global Smartphone Vendor

BENGALURU: Apple is back on top. South Korea’s giant Samsung who has been on pole position ever since 2011 finally has made way for Apple. Thanks to Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus which allowed it to displace Samsung from the top spot as the number one Smartphone vendor for Q4 in 2014.

Apple Vs SamsungToppling Samsung from top position, Apple witnessed a massive sale of 74.8 million units in Q4 with its first ever large-screen phones that saw a huge demand in China and the U.S. With that Apple’s market further grew at 56 percent and 88 percent, respectively, as observed by Gartner.

Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst at Gartner said that "Samsung's performance in the Smartphone market deteriorated further in the fourth quarter of 2014, when it lost nearly 10 percentage points in market share. Samsung continues to struggle to control its falling Smartphone share, which was at its highest in the third quarter of 2013. This downward trend shows that Samsung's share of profitable premium Smartphone users has come under significant pressure."

Other observations made by Gartner showed that the worldwide sales of Smartphones have hit a record height in the last quarter of 2014. The Smartphone sales have increased by 29.9 percent from the fourth quarter of 2013 to reach 367.5 million units.
