Amazon announces cheaper version of Kindle with ads

San Francisco: The online retailer Amazon.com is offering cheaper version of its Kindle e-reader, which will come with on-screen ads. According to a report by the Associated Press, the new Kindle with Special Offers will cost $114 and it will be partly funded by advertising and sponsored screensavers. For now, the newest Kindle, which is $25 less than the currently lowest-priced Kindle, will only be available in the U.S. It can be pre-ordered now, and will be shiped to customers from 3 May. The Seattle-based company has time and again lowered the price of the Kindle since it released the first version of the device in 2007 at $399. However, this is the first time the company is lowering the price including ads on the device. Special offers will appear at the bottom of the device's home screen. Apart from that, there will also be sponsored screensavers from companies like Buick, Olay and Visa.
