After Streak, Dell planning 7-inch Android tablet?

San Francisco: Looks like its raining tablets this season. And every major player is eyeing a share of the pie in the tablet market. Dell, after launching Streak tablet last month, has now revealed that it is working on a 7-inch tablet running on Google's Android platform. The prototype was showcased briefly at Oracle's annual conference by Dell CEO Michael Dell. Nothing has been mentioned in terms of the gadget's specifications or when would the tablet be available for sale or its pricing. The tablet market has come a long way since Apple first launched the iPad, which set the benchmark for tablets. With new contenders emerging every other day, the league of tablet makers seems to grow at a fast rate. Samsung has just unveiled its own tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Others like HTC, Motorola and Acer are joining the tablet bandwagon soon. Coming back to Streak, Dell's first venture in the tablet space, it is an Android based, 5-inch screen tablet, known for its reputation of being a hybrid between conventional smartphones and larger tablets. However, the Streak has been in for a lot of bad press with critics categorizing it to be too awkward to use as a giant phone and too small to use as a computer. With the new 7-inch tablet in the offing, we can only hope that Dell would have learned its lesson from the reactions Streak garnered and will be able to up its tablet quotient with the new device.
