AMD to Launch New Graphics Card - Radeon HD 7970


Bangalore: AMD or Advanced Micro Devices is planning to launch its new graphics card on 22nd December 2011. The semiconductor company has come up with all new Radeon HD 7970 desktop graphics card. The specifications of the new graphics card have been revealed by OBR website. It is assumed that the price of Radeon HD 7970 will be $549. Some key specifications of AMD’s Radeon HD 7970 ar: it has large memory of 384-bit and the chip contains at least 4.3 billion transistors. Through Tahiti, AMD has changed its existing design of Radeon HD 2000 series. It is said that the new design will improve the performance per mm2 die-area which is an interesting way of measuring the effectiveness of the design. It has occupied 3GB of GDDR5 memory using twelve 2 Mbit memory chips, the chip acquires power from two PCIe power connectors, an 8-pin connector and a 6-pin connector. The card has curvy look compared to other HD design. The display connectors of the card consist of DVI and HDMI and two mini display port connectors. The other feature is dual-BIOS, similar to HD 6900 series. According to the technology website, Vr-zone, Radeon HD 7970 will contain 2048 stream processors and 3GB of GDDR5 memory. 925MHz will be the center clock speed but as per AMD, the card will able to overclock ahead of 1GHz. As per Fudzilla, Radeon HD 7970 will be 30 percent faster compared Radeon HD 6970.
