#2 ZTE Open: World's First Firefox OS Phone

Spain's Telefonica has offered world's first Smartphone with the Firefox operating system to compete with devices running Google Android and Apple IOS. Equipped with a 3.5-inch 480x320-pixel touchscreen, the ZTE Open includes a 3.2MP camera, 256MB RAM and 512MB flash memory enhanced with a 4GB microSD card that comes as part of the package. Mozilla executives said the ZTE Open is the "first chapter" in what they expect to be a long project, one that is already attracting interest from many other telecommunications companies.

The Firefox OS is entirely Web-based. It borrows some features from Android and iOS to unlock the phone, pull down notifications, and arrange app icons in a grid pattern. The OS comes preloaded with a variety of apps, including e-mail, an address book, a calendar, a data usage tracker, and Nokia's Here maps. There's YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, and, of course, Firefox's tabbed browser.
