Tag Heuer Announces Android Wear Smartwatch Powered By Intel

BANGALORE: Tag Heuer, the Swiss watchmaker, Google and Intel have come together to launch a Swiss smartwatch. The first luxury smartwatch would hit the shelves in the market by the end of 2015. The Android Wear platform will be offered by Google while the smartwatch will be powered by Intel, reports TOI.

This unique partnership will mark the unison of the best workforce of the Sillicon Valley and the renowned Swiss watchmaker to introduce the first luxury Android wear. Jean-Claude Biver, chief executive at Tag Heuer, refused to reveal any details on the cost or design of the new product. However the rumors suggest that the design of the new watch will be inspired from Tag Heuer black Carrera.

Apple watch, priced at a range of $350 to $17000, is entering the markets on April 24. Investors and competitors are keeping a close tab on the new product of the company amidst high speculations and expectations in the market. The new watch from Apple would work entirely with the aid of iPhones which implies that the buyers are likely to have iPhones.

Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight, is of the view that this deal of the watchmaker company with tech firms will pave the way for many such partnerships to emerge.

"With Apple Watch hitting the market it's no longer viable for Swiss watchmakers to bury their heads in the sand. Now Tag Heuer has signaled its intention to enter the smartwatch market we are certain others will follow." he said.

On the other hand, Gucci also revealed its plans to come up with a smartband. However, Hermes, Swatch Group and Patek Philippe currently have no plans to come up with smartwatches.
