The Good: The budget smartphone from Sony, Xperia Tipo does deliver impressive performances and even though it is a budget phone it comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The phone is well built and sturdy and it also comes with good loudspeaker facility.

The Bad: Sony Xperia Tipo does come with its drawbacks as well as flaws. The camera comes with fixed focus camera, the resolution in on the lower side which does disappoint the user and the viewing of the screen from different angles is also not up to the mark.

The Bottom Line: For the price tag that it comes with the smartphone is worth buying. But if you are looking for high specifications then you should stay away from this handset.

Design: What you notice without any delay is the fact that the smartphone is slightly on the bulky and chunky side. It comes with dimensions; 13 X 103 X 57 mm. The back panel of Xperia Tipo is charming as unlike it rivals who use plastic back covers Tipo comes with rubber coating on the battery cover. This means that you can clean your phone with a damp cloth and it will look brand new again.

The 2011 Xperia models came with buttons, but in the new models it has been replaced with capacitive touch buttons. The bottom part of the phone is curved and comes with the Xperia branding. The volume buttons are present on the left side of the handset and the micro USB slot is at the right side of the smartphone.

Processor and Operating System: If you are looking for speed and power then Xperia Tipo may not be the phone you are looking for. This handset is powered by an 800 MHz Cortex-A5 Qualcomm MSM7225AA processor. This is the bare minimum processor one would look for even in a budget smartphone. Though the processor might be slow, Xperia Tipo actually works in a fluid manner.

Sony Xperia Tipo functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system which gives you access to a lot of fun and exciting free apps on Google Store.

Features and Performance:

Screen: Sony Xperia Tipo Comes with a 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touch screen which supports a resolution of 320 X 480 pixels. The screen comes with 180 ppi (pixels per inch) density and the screen is also scratch proof as it comes with a Scratch-resistant glass. Before we start complaining about the screen specification we also have to remember the fact that this is budget smartphone from the Sony.

One major flaw that we can point out is the fact that the slightest change in viewing angles the colours and contrast deteriorate rapidly and since there is no oleophobic coating the screen develops fingerprints easily and gathers smudge marks easily.

The battery with one charge promises to give the user with up to 5 hours of talk time and 470 hours of standby time. If you love listening to music on the go then the phone provides you with up to 30 hours of play back time.

Camera: The smartphone comes with a 3.2 mega pixel rear camera but a front facing camera is missing which means that the user can forget about making video calls as well as the face lock application which the Android 4 devices come will also not work with this handset.

The rear camera proves to be quite decent but it misses features like auto focus. The phone doesn’t have any physical camera button but to compensate that there is a short cut to launch the camera soon; all you have to do is swipe to left from the lock screen and you are all set to click pictures.
The shot modes are limited to just Night scene, Beach and snow and Sports. Otherwise you have to very careful with the lighting while clicking.

You can shoot videos at VGA with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels.
