LG Optimus G

Price: Rs. 35000 - Rs. 35990
Bangalore: Designed to set a new benchmark in the industry, LG, the world’s third largest phone-maker launched its flagship phone Optimus G in India. Even though it’s an inspiration from Google Nexus 4, it faces tough competition from rivals like Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X.

Good:
The Smartphone offers an excellent performance and gorgeous display with True HD and also offers brilliant audio output.

Bad:
The build could have been better rather than sticking on to industrial designs. Apart from that, it doesn’t offer good camera features and memory storage cannot be expanded.

Design:
LG Optimus G is a compact Smartphone that fits into your palm easily. The phone appeals solid, has sharp edges and is rectangular in shape. It is easy to grip due to the glass-covered rear. It has edgy feeling similar to Nexus 4 and the back panel has a diamond patterned texture under the glass that shimmers in light. It has a brick-like industrial design. The front and back of the phone are layered with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 in order to make them durable and comparatively scratch resistant. Since it has a unibody design, it doesn’t have a removable cover at the back and weighs about 145 grams.

Processor and operating system:
The Indian version of LG Optimus G is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and utilizes a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset that includes a 1.5 Ghz Krait quad core processor along with an Adreno 320 GPU, which offers the phone fluid touch operations and faster execution of commands and application requests. The Optimus user Interface 3.0 creates a lot of difference to the standard device with unique customizations.

Screen:
The device sports a 4.7-inch IPS+ display that has a resolution of 1280*768 pixels and a pixel density of 320ppi with capacitive touchscreen. The screen is bright and stunning and the text looks crispy. The app icons and images appear sharp. Powered by a True HD, 720p display, the Optimus G is equipped with Zerogap Touch display technology. This technology brings visuals closer to the surface of the screen and gives a more immersive experience.

Battery Life:
The Battery backup is an add-on feature for Optimus G. It lasts a full day between charges and even longer for light users. It manages power usage and offers superior performance. It has 2100mAh capacity and offers talk-time up to 15 hours.

Camera:
The 13MP camera is not up to the mark. Regardless of the high resolution sensor, the images would seem blurred in low-light conditions but photos taken from close up are good. It renders white balance even though it doesn’t deliver images with sufficient details. It can also capture pictures with voice commands like ‘cheese’, ‘LG’, ‘Smile’ and ‘Whisky’. Besides, the camera also supports time catch shots mode which starts taking pictures before the button is pressed and displays 5 best shots. The 13MP camera comes with LED flash on the back and 1.3MP unit in front.

Storage and Connectivity:
LG Optimus G features 2GB RAM memory and 32GB of internal storage which works great for almost all the applications. Unfortunately, the device misses on the SD memory card slot and cannot be improvised further by external micro SDHC data cards. Connectivity features of the device include Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. The phone is NFC compliant which can be used for payment and sharing purposes.

Price and Availability:
The phone is available at a price of Rs. 35000 and is available in all the major cities across India.

Wrap-up:
Look wise, LG Optimus G is a stunning phone and is one of the best in its price range. But it isn’t the best in camera and the build quality lacks polish compared to its chief rivals Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X.
