For a Researcher/Staff Writer to write a news article, he/she has to know his subject. Researching is a large part of a Researcher/Staff Writer's job responsibility, so he/she must show broad-based ability, including Internet searches; databases; and collecting information from public records, such as stock exchanges, SEC, and other documents.
Writing quality should be clear and concise, because this is not the forum for creative prose. A Researcher/Staff Writer may write short or long articles, internet content and different versions of an article for different audiences. A Researcher/Staff Writer should understand how to use subject-verb agreement, avoid passive voice and use concrete nouns and vivid verbs. It is also vital to avoid wordiness.
