Sports gets 1,121 Crore, one-third of last year


New Delhi:The Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry has been allocated 1,121 crores in the annual budeget for 2011-12, which is nearly one-third of last year's 3,315.67 crores. In his Budget presented in the Lok Sabha today, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee allocated 1000 crores as plan outlay while Rs 121 crores will be non-plan. Expectedly this year's budget allocation has seen a sharp reduction as the last two year's outlay was high due to Commonwealth Games. Last year, the budget allocation was 3315.67 crores while in 2009-10, it was 3,670.13 crores. Out of the total outlay, Rs 688.67 crores has been allocated for sports and games while 311.39 crores has been earmarked for Youth Welfare Scheme. Other programmes, including Schemes for the Benefit of North Eastern Area and Sikkim, will get 106 crores. The remaining 14.
