Seven Times When a Cheaper Choice is Worth it

BENGALURU: In economics, the utility we derive from units we invest is referred to as satisfaction. So whenever we shell from our pockets, we expect a return out of it. In this process, we tend to have a belief that the more we pay, the greater satisfaction we get. For example, the more one spends on a cake, the creamier and fresh it will be.

But there are situations when this goes the other way. Going for the cheaper in choice makes sense. You pay less yet you don’t bargain with the utility. Few such cases as listed by US Today:

Cell Phone Plans:  Go for a cheaper one than a big brand. You might go out of touch from the world at times. You might have to call twice consecutive to get to the same person but imagine the savings you are making in the process. Again, if for emergencies or belief, you take up a big brand, use is entirely in your hands. Whether to go for a data card or depend onWifi back at home or office is entirely up to you.

Groceries approaching sells-by dates

It happens that we buy a bottle a sauce months ago, forget about it and finally get such an over processed version of it that we have to throw it in the dustbin. In that case, go for groceries nearing to the sell-by dates. Get them home. Cook and eat. Than preserving and then wasting, this is a far better choice. The groceries remain healthy to consume till the date mentioned. So keep a check and opt for this method.
