Sensex rises in early trade


Bangalore: A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Friday shot up in early trade. The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) which opened at 17,804.94 points, was ruling at 17,576.71 points, up 159.14 points or 0.9 percent from its previous close at 17,727.49 points. The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was also trading in the green at 5,366.9 points, up 0.88 percent. Broader markets were also in the green with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.6 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index up 0.41 percent.
