Sensex Surges 311 Points; Realty Stocks Gain


MUMBAI: A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), surged 310.92 points or 1.15 percent during afternoon session on Monday.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 101.90 points or 1.25 percent up at 8,283.40 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,204.63 points, was trading at 27,322.23 points (at 1.02 p.m.), up 310.92 points or 1.15 percent from the previous day's close at 27,011.31 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 27,386.60 points and a low of 27,159.45 points in the intra-day trade so far.

Good buying was observed in realty, oil and gas, consumer durables and healthcare sectors.

The BSE S&P realty index got augmented by 2.50 percent, consumer durables index moved up by 1.97 percent, oil and gas index scored by 1.97 percent and healthcare index increased by 1.90 percent.
