Rupee Up 4 Paise Against Dollar in Early Trade

Bangalore: The rupee rose marginally by 4 paise to 52.50 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, as the American currency weakened against other Asian currencies overseas.

Besides the dollar's weakness against other currencies following disappointing first-quarter US economic growth, a higher opening in the local equity market also supported the rupee, dealers said.

The domestic currency had ended flat at 52.54/55 against the dollar in Friday's trade.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex rose by 136.79 points, or 0.79 per cent, to 17,324.13 in early trade today.
