The fine is imposed as a result of infringement of norms set down by the regulating authority. The company was served a showcause notice by IRDA on account of paying excess referral fees than what is outlined in the referral guidelines and 'file and use' procedures. The company is to pay 5 lakh each for both these lapses. Not just this, Reliance Life has also been warned by IRDA on issues including opening offices without prior consent contracting business in a unit with an identifiable code number relating to a branch for which no approval was taken. Delay in issuing of licenses was also observed by the IRDA inspection team, to which the company has agreed. Reliance Life had outsourced key jobs related to license issue that violated the IRDA's norms. Reliance Life, on its part, said it has stopped the license outsourcing jobs.
