Overseas Indian Workers to Get Pension, Insurance Benefits


New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is likely to take up tomorrow a proposal to set up a fund which will be used to offer insurance cover and pension benefits to overseas Indian workers on their return to the country. "Cabinet will discuss the proposal of setting up of a pension and life insurance fund for overseas Indians workers," sources said. The proposal has been prepared by the Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry. Officials in the Ministry said the fund is being set up to provide insurance cover and pension benefits to Indian workers on their return to the country. Vayalar Ravi, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister, had already announced the plan to set up the fund to provide migrant workers insurance cover and pension benefits on their return to the country. The fund is mainly aimed at offering financial help to Indians working in the Gulf region.
