Nifty trading upward; Sterlite,Tata Steel,SAIL advance


MUMBAI: Nifty has shown an upward trend hovering around 5400 in the market. European markets has shown substantial gains of 1.5-2 percent. Metals, realty and oil&gas stocks provided support while pharma stocks were marginally lower. The Sensex was up 98.68 points or 0.55 percent at 17976.82, and the Nifty was up 26.90 points or 0.50 percent at 5394.90. About 1705 shares advanced, 1270 shares declined, and 364 shares remain unchanged. At 2:30 pm, National Stock Exchange's Nifty was at 5403.25, up 35.25 points or 0.66 per cent. The index touched a high of 5409.10 and low of 5368.85 in trade so far. Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was at 17976.51, up 98.37 points or 0.55 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 18012.20 and low of 17873.92. BSE Midcap Index was up 0.41 percent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.46 percent higher. The sectoral indices showed BSE Metal Index moving up 2.84 percent along with BSE Realty Index advancing 0.82 percent and BSE Oil&gas Index gaining 0.79 percent. Metal, technology, auto, capital goods, FMCG, realty and select power companies' shares along with heavyweight Reliance Industries were quite supportive to the markets today. Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 824 advances against 459 declines. The European markets gained momentum after a positive start. FTSE 100 was up 1.46 percent, CAC 40 gained 1.74 percent and DAX moved 1.28 per cent higher.
