Momentum Continues; Sensex, Nifty Hit Fresh Record Highs


NEW DELHI: After rallying over 100 points in the previous session, the 50-share Nifty index opened on a cautious note but managed to hit fresh record high of 6810.60, led by gains in DLFBSE 1.53 percent, Tata Motors, BPCLBSE 0.00 percent and State Bank of IndiaBSE 2.07 percent.

Tracking the momentum, the S&P BSE Sensex which rose over 350 points in the previous session managed to rally over 50 points to hit its fresh record high of 22769.20.

At 09:20 a.m.; the 50-share index was trading at 6803, up 7 points or 0.11 per cent. It touched a high of 6,810.60 and a low of 6,799.65 in early trade.

The S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 22,751.23, up 48 points or 0.22 per cent. It touched a high of 22,769.20 and a low of 22,724.23 in trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.47 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index edged higher by 0.61 per cent.

On the sectoral front, the BSE Realty index was up 0.86 per cent, followed by the BSE Capital Goods Index which was trading 0.65 per cent higher and the BSE Consumer Durable index was up 0.7 per cent.

The BSE IT Index was trading 0.4 per cent lower, followed by the BSE FMCG index which was down 0.27 per cent and the BSE technology index was trading 0.23 per cent lower.

Sun Pharma (up 2.3 per cent), Sesa (up 1.5 per cent), BHEL (up 1.2 per cent), Tata Motors (up 1.2 per cent) and HDFC (up 0.9 per cent) were among the major Sensex gainers.

Hero MotoCorp (down 0.5 per cent), Wipro (down 0.4 per cent), ITC (down 0.3 per cent) and Tata Steel (down 0.3 per cent) were the major index losers.
