Market overcomes volatility, Nifty ends almost flat

Mumbai: Notwithstanding the new optimism on the back of global rebound, domestic bourses struggled to keep the phase, as the benchmark CNX Nifty ended marginally higher at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) here today. The 50-share index witnessed huge swings between 6,076.20 and 5,906.75 before settling at 5,988.80 up by 10.10 points, or 0.17 percent over its last close. Trading began on highly positive note led by sharp Asian recovery after Tuesday's plunge, but immediately surrendered the gains on profit taking at higher levels. The intense selling pressure took the key index to 5,906.75 the day's low point. "The visible stability in Asian markets which managed to hold its gains hoping early solution in Irish debt crises mainly went in favour of domestic bourses amidst intense volatility," traders said.
