Indian Digital Commerce To Reach 2.11 Lakh Cr By December: Report


NEW DELHI: Indian digital commerce is poised to reach Rs 2,11,005 crore by December 2016, after growing at a CAGR of 30 per cent between December 2011-December 2015, said a report by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and market research firm IMRB.

The entire gamut of digital commerce amounting to Rs 1,25,732 crore by December 2015 was further divided into Online Travel and Online Non-Travel categories, with Online Travel accounting for the lion's share of transactions worth Rs 76,396 crore, followed by Online Non-Travel at Rs 49,336 crore, said the report released here.

"Online travel industry continues to grow strongly with 61 per cent share while share of online non-travel has improved over the previous year to reach 39 per cent," said the report.

"Domestic air ticket and railways booking continue to be among top contributors to the online travel spends. These were the segments that were the top contributors in previous year also," it said.

Hotel bookings contributed Rs 5,200 crore while online train ticketing rose by 34 percent to Rs 21,708 crore.

e-tail (Rs 37,689 crore), Financial Services (Rs 5,231), Matrimony and Classified (Rs 2,592) and Other Online service (Rs 3,823) accounted for the Rs 49,336 crore worth of digital commerce under Online Non-Travel category.

Mobile phones and accessories occupied the top spot under e-commerce with a transactional value of Rs 14,109 crore while cameras and camera accessories stood at the bottom with Rs 803 crore.

"e-tailing maintained a strong performance with a 57 per cent year-on-year growth," the report said.

According to the report, Financial Services market grew to be as big as Rs 5,231 crore by December 2015.

Other Online Services, which include movie and event ticketing, cab hailing, food and grocery order and delivery, amounted to Rs 3,823 crore by the analysed period.

Established in 2004, IAMAI deals in mobile content and services, online publishing, advertising and others.
