Bengal Traders' Body Calls Shutdown Against FDI


Kolkata: The Confederation of West Bengal Trade Associations (CWBTA), the apex body of the most prominent trade associations of the state covering over five lakh small and medium traders, has called a 24-hour trade shutdown Dec 1 in protest against the central government's consent to entry of Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail trade. "At the CWBTA executive committee meeting Monday, the office bearers and constituent trade associations unanimously resolved to observe this trade bandh," said founder president Feroz Ali. All sister apex trade bodies would also support and observe this shutdown as a gesture of solidarity, Ali said.
